Our Story

Skincare rooted in four generations of wisdom, from a herd we call by name, and one extraordinary founder.

Lois and her family built The Gilded Goat on land she's called home for over 30 years. A solar-powered goat dairy farm in southern Illinois, where the persimmon trees are young, the lavender is coming in, botanicals are foraged, and the herd knows every voice that walks through the gate.

The dream started earlier. Saturday afternoons in her grandmother Della's kitchen, learning the old ways. A pinch of this. A handful of that. Della taught her daughters, then Lois, then even Joshua how to make soap and read a recipe the way women had for generations: by sight, sound, touch, and smell. Della's farm is gone now. What she taught isn't.

Lois is 72. She's outlived every medical prediction since she was 12. Her vision faded over the years, but the instincts Della gave her only sharpened. She still reads every formula through texture, temperature, and scent. If Lois can't experience it through her senses, it's not done.

We've added the science Della never had. Precision scales, pH meters, freeze-drying technology, formulation research. But the foundation is still the same: know what you're making with your hands before you trust what's on the label.

When Joshua and Cory came home to help family, the three of them turned all of it into something real. Cory brings a biology and chemistry degree. Joshua brings formulation research and a journalist's instinct for what our customers want. Together, they've added precision scales, pH meters, and freeze-drying technology to the foundation Della laid. But the rule is still the same: know what you're making with your hands before you trust what's on the label. Lois keeps everyone honest. They freeze-dry fresh goat milk from their own Nigerian Dwarf herd and make everything in small batches you can trace back to a handful of goats they call by name.

The herd

The goats behind every product.

Three humans run the operation. 18 goats provide the milk and most of the content. Three dogs keep everyone honest.

Blossom
Chief Herd Officer
Our barnyard boss, who treats every latch like a Rubik's cube and every fence like a suggestion. First to feed, first to the gate, first to whatever you thought you locked properly. Blossom is the matriarch of this herd. Rosebud is her granddaughter. Wendy and Tinkerbell are her great-great-granddaughters. Four generations of goats on one farm, and she started it all.
Superpower
  • Strategic gate liberation
  • "That's cute that you think that'll hold."
Snow
VP of PR & Personal Brand
If it wasn't on Instagram, did it even happen? Snow has never met a camera she didn't love or an angle she couldn't work. All white, came to us as a former bottle baby, and grew into the most photogenic goat on the farm. She's also the most naturally maternal doe we have and the most fearless. When Blossom retires, Snow runs this place. She already thinks she does.
Superpower
  • Content creation and snack procurement
  • "No, my left side is better."
Rosebud
Director of Spa Operations
The zen master who makes 5 a.m. milking feel like a meditation retreat. Rosebud could find her center in a tornado and still produce milk so perfect it makes other goats question their life choices. She's Blossom's granddaughter, she's had more kids than any other doe on the farm, and she has never once looked stressed about it. Unflappable. Unbothered. In her lane.
Superpower
  • Turning chaos into calm (and hay into heaven)
  • "You're all doing great. I'm going back to my hay."
Chanel
Senior Analyst of Vibes
The introvert's introvert who runs a thorough background check before accepting your friend request. Chanel operates on trust earned, not given, which makes her eventual head-bonks feel like winning the lottery. Snow's aunt. Quiet producer. Doesn't seek the spotlight. She's proof that still waters run deep and soft hearts hide behind careful observation.
Superpower
  • Quality over quantity friendships
  • "I'll come to you when I'm ready."
Sierra
Chief Happiness Officer
She believes every moment is improved by her presence (she's right) and that personal space is a myth. Professional meeting crasher. Amateur comedian. Certified good girl. Sierra was shy when she first arrived, but that lasted about a week. She doesn't just show up. She arrives. Forget trying to take a serious photo of the others.
Superpower
  • Aggressive friendliness and strategic photobombs
  • "Did someone say group hug?"
Billy
Chief Security Officer
A rescue. Given to the farm so she could have a better home. Billy doesn't just greet you, she conducts character assessments that would make the FBI jealous. Convinced she's a guard dog trapped in a goat's body. First to announce the mailman, last to approve your entry, and 100% accurate in her judgment calls. Rescued? Please. She clearly rescued us.
Superpower
  • Perimeter patrol and soul reading
  • "You may pass... but I'm watching you."
Elvis
Director of Swagger
Father of every kid born on this farm this winter. Has left the building? Never. Elvis IS the building. With hair that defies humidity and moves that would make his namesake proud, he's mastered the art of looking good while doing absolutely nothing productive. This was his first kidding season. He's very pleased with himself. Thank you. Thank you very much.
Superpower
  • Crowd work and mane maintenance
  • "The camera adds 10 pounds of handsomeness"
Johnny
VP of Vertical Integration
Elvis's wingman. Farm Nanny. Why walk when you can parkour? Johnny believes gravity is more of a guideline and treats the farm like his personal American Ninja Warrior course. He's achieved flight clearance at heights that make insurance adjusters nervous. No milk production duties. Just the best farm Nanny money (or treats) can buy. Always good vibes and vertical ambition.
Superpower
  • Defying physics and protecting the innocent
  • "Watch this!" (We did. We gasped.)
From the Farm

See where everything starts.

Solar panels in the pasture. Lavender in the field. Goats on the porch. Lois in the workshop. The farm life that keeps us going.

Our Ingredients

Why goat milk. Why freeze-dried.

Goat milk has been used on skin for centuries because it works. We take fresh milk from our herd and freeze-dry it so every formula carries the real thing.

Rich-fats

Full of fats that sink in instead of sitting on top. pH close to yours, so it doesn't irritate. Lactic acid that softens without stripping. Farm families figured this out a long time ago.

Farm-crafted

We grow and distill our own hydrosols right here on the farm. We infuse our own botanicals in oils and every product smells like home, not synthetic fragrance. Produced on site, under solar power.

Water-free

Pulls out water, leaves behind concentrated nutrients and fats. Better shelf life, stronger formulas, and products like soaking stones and pearls you activate with water at home.
